The Challenge
A major construction company was delivering a landmark infrastructure project at Hamad Port, Qatar’s primary commercial port. The project required GSAS Construction Management (CM) certification, which mandates sustainability performance across materials procurement, waste management, energy use, water conservation, and site environmental management during the construction phase.
Our Approach
- GSAS CM framework: Established sustainability management procedures for the construction phase aligned with GORD’s CM scheme requirements.
- Material tracking: Implemented procurement tracking for recycled content, local sourcing, and certified materials to meet GSAS material credits.
- Construction waste management: Designed and monitored waste segregation, recycling, and diversion programmes to achieve minimum 50% construction waste diversion from landfill.
- Environmental monitoring: Air quality, noise, and stormwater runoff monitoring during construction, with monthly reporting to GORD.
Outcome
The project achieved GSAS CM certification with high marks across material and waste management categories. The sustainability management procedures established during construction were transitioned to the operations team for ongoing GSAS Operations compliance.
