BNG (Biodiversity Net Gain)

Environmental Management
Biodiversity Net Gain is a UK planning policy requirement (effective February 2024) mandating that developments deliver at least 10% net gain in biodiversity value compared to the pre-development baseline. Measured using the Defra Biodiversity Metric, BNG can be achieved through on-site habitat creation, off-site habitat banks, or statutory biodiversity credits. BNG applies to most developments requiring planning permission in England and creates a new market for habitat creation and management.
