Net Zero
Carbon & ClimateNet zero means achieving a balance between greenhouse gas emissions produced and emissions removed from the atmosphere. Under the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Net-Zero Standard, companies must reduce value chain emissions by at least 90% from a base year, with remaining residual emissions neutralised through permanent carbon removals. Net zero differs from carbon neutrality, which allows unlimited offsetting. The Paris Agreement targets net zero globally by 2050 to limit warming to 1.5°C.
